Anna J. Choi, a U.S. citizen was born in Seoul Korea. She received her B.M. and M.M. degrees from the Juilliard School in New York City, after 4 yrs. of study. She was Principal Violinist for the Leonard Bernstein’s Master Class at the Juilliard School, Juilliard Contemporary Ensemble and the Juilliard School Orchestra. Ms Choi also participated in Master Classes including Max Rostal, Aaron Rosand, Dorothy Delay, the Guarneri String Quartet and the Juilliard String Quartet.
Ms. Choi has won numerous awards including the Honorary Recipient of the Clara Baur Instrumental and the Heerman Violin Competition. She was also a five time winner of a Young Artist Concerto Competition. From age 12, she served as Soloist and Concertmaster (1st chair) through 13 consecutive years including Youth Orchestras, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, the Juilliard School, Arturo Toscanini Orch. in Parma, Italy, Teatro San Carlo Chamber Orchestra and Teatro San Carlo Opera/Symphony in Naples, Italy.
Ms. Choi has had worldwide concert tours from age 12 and received scholarships to the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, the Juilliard School, Meadowmount and the Aspen Colorado Summer Music Festival. As a High School Freshman, she won the All State Orchestra position as Concertmaster in Kentucky. Anna commuted weekly from Kentucky to Ohio to study with Jens Ellermann at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music for 6 yrs.
During her year on the faculty at Southwestern University, Ms. Choi performed nationally and locally including the Chamber Soloist of Tx., the Victoria Symphony, the Austin Lyric Opera and Orchestra of Santa Fe, New Mexico. She has judged numerous competitions including the Regional/State UIL solo contests, the Houston Texas Concerto Violin Competition, the San Marcos Instrumental Competition and the Walenstein Violin Competition (FLA.)
Anna Choi has also made various CD recordings worldwide and national television commercial including Schlotskys, Daisy Sour Cream, Greyhound Bus, Sonic and 2 versions of Texas Tourists. Her professors includes Ivan Galamian, Jens Ellermann, Aaron Rosand, Dorothy Delay , Masao Kawasaki and Paul Zukofsky.
Ms. Choi established the International Music School of Violin and Piano and accepts students of all ages and levels through audition only. Her goal is to reestablish a world class benchmark in Music Education. Her teaching methods, philosophy and reputation as a performer have made her a unique mentor for hundreds of students.
Ms. Choi’s students have been ranked in the Top 10 of the TMEA ALL STATE (SYMPHONY) High School Orchestras and have won First Chairs for the TMEA ALL REGION orchestras in both Middle School and High School age groups. Additionally, her students have also won First Chairs in the Austin Youth Orchestras, Middle School and High School Orchestras in Austin.
Ms. Choi’s 6th to 12th grade students have also been rated 1 (highest score possible) for the UIL All Region and All State Solo & Ensemble and her students have also been winners of the Asian American Young Musicians Challenge Cup, Pearl Amster Concerto Competition, ASO Concerto Competition and the Honor Orchestra of America.
From her acceptance at the Juilliard School, through years of worldwide performances and teaching experiences, Anna Choi has demonstrated an unceasing effort of educating and enriching students with her knowledge and expertise in the world of music.
